  GOING, GOING... Not surprised sadly, shopping in the food hall has declined very much over the last twenty years. The floor space was reduced by half about ten years ago and our preferred produce always appears to disappear from stock here before it does at other stores not far away. It was refurbished a few years back, but, unlike those other stores - without the self checkout facility. This was complained about by Moi to one of the staff, she was not sympathetic, quite the opposite - she saw it as a means of securing her employment! Good for her, but, bad for them! Update - spoke with one of the counter staff recently, she informs me that it is a goner! The consultation is apparently merely 'window dressing', the building needs a complete refurbishment, it contains asbestos and footfall is in terminal decline here. M&S own the property, and, in view of the decline in footfall, changes to the local road access and the 'dumbing down' of Merseyway (far too many discount outlets) - they have lost all faith in the place. RECOMMENDED WITH RESERVATIONS.

  Tragic for Stockport that this store is closing. Meanwhile the town council focus all their attention on new developments such as Redrock. Who cares about yet another pizza eatery, yet more pound shops etc when we are losing much loved High street institutions such as this one?
